Authentications & High Court Apostilles

Authentications & High Court Apostilles

The Notary Guy offers notarisation and authentication services, which is a process whereby the authenticity of the document and the signatures on the document are verified. The Notary Public will verify the identity and awareness of the signatory of the document, which is a measure aimed at deterring fraudulent activities.

An apostille or authentication is required where documents are to be used abroad, and will depend on whether the country is a member of the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (“Hague Convention”).

The Hague Convention sets out the legal requirements for documents issued in signatory countries to be certified, such that the documents may be used in other countries that are also signatories to the Hague Convention.

This certification is done through either DIRCO or the High Court, and will be attended to by representatives of The Notary Guy. An apostille does not verify the contents or veracity of the underlying document, but rather serves to authenticate the signatory’s capacity and willingness to sign the document. As such, any document to be apostilled must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public. The Notary Public will also append a Certificate of Authentication to the document, whereafter it will be apostilled.
